noble commons 
Noble Commons is a THOW (tiny house on wheels) community in coastal North Carolina.
We are creating a beautiful place where you park your THOW in order to live with integrity as neighbor and friend while practicing social and ecological responsibility. We purchased 14 acres of land in 2021 and are working with the county, an engineering office, and a landscape architect specializing in sustainability to develop it. The plan is to have it move-in ready by spring 2025. The bureaucracy has been the main obstacle, but we are almost there.
The idea
Whether you already own a THOW or are thinking about purchasing one, we invite you to explore if this is a place for you to live for a while. We are especially reaching out to neurodiverse or neurodivergent individuals, couples, and families who are looking for a place to belong. The plan is to have about 20 THOWs, cabins, or converted shipping containers with a bath house (shower, toilet), a large community garden, a greenhouse, walking trails, chickens and other critters (sheep, goats, and a cow are all still in the running, as are an emu, a llama, and a miniature horse), all of which is taken care of by all of us.
Other ideas include a co-working space for digital nomads, a mushroom barn, a meditation space, and a workshop. If you bring special skills and interests, our hope is to make room for them. The property is about 15 minutes from the beach and about 10 minutes from shopping and medical facilities. The homes will be parked surrounded by trees with a good bit of privacy. Updates will be posted as our plans are finalized.
Our goal
The goal is that everyone contributes in some way. And we are very aware that those ways will differ. We understand that there are different expectations regarding the amount of rent a spot in a THOW community should cost. As a coastal and fast growing area, Brunswick county, NC, is pretty expensive. Currently, renting a room in someone’s house will cost between $800-1200 a month, a two bedroom house easily rents for $1500-2000, a spot to park an RV in an RV park is between $70-100 a night (depending on the season).
We are hoping to keep our monthly rent much more affordable than that, but it will likely still come in around $600-700 a month (depending on the time of year and length of stay). The yearly rent will likely be around $6000 for people who want to commit to becoming long-term members of the community (which is our hope). While that may still sound expensive to some, it would be less than half of what you typically pay to live in this area.
If you want to join the community, but finances are a concern, please reach out anyway – where there is a will, there is a way. We are hoping to find a way to offer containers for rent or rent-to-own.
